Spring 2024-Week 1

Hi, Everyone. I don't know about everyone else, but this week is my first full week of classes (apparently, I had a few late start classes). I always start strong in the first week, and then it all goes downhill from there, but this semester, I'm trying to keep up with everything. Aside from that, I've hit that point where all my open tabs are research articles for TRAIN. I'm super excited about my project this semester. This semester requires me to branch out and ask others for help, which makes me nervous. I am attaching a picture from my first robotics competition where I got to drive a bot!! Super exciting experience.

Fall 2024-Week 13

Hi everyone, I hope everyone had an ejoyable thanksgiving.There isn't much for me to say. I was able to finish my experiments before leaving for vacation last week. I plan on analyzing my results and finishing my research paper. I also plan to work on the final presentation. This week was also my last week for the organic chemistry lab and lecture. I'll be taking the organic chemistry final on monday so wish me luck.

Fall 2024- Week 5

Hi Everyone, This week was my first whole week in the lab. I focused mainly on calculations and locating everything I needed for the next few weeks. I also made fresh media this week. We made a few adjustments to last year's protocol in hopes that we get better jobs. We made adjustments by ordering flat bottom well plates to help bacterial biofilms stick better. We got an adhesive film to cover the plates to avoid too much evaporation and cross-contamination. By next week, I plan to plate some bacteria and measure the biofilms. (I had to autoclave my media and bottles to store it in)

Fall-2024 Week 7

Staphylococcus aureus is considered one of the most prevalent pathogens in hospital-related infections. This strain of Staphylococcus are apart of the human microbiota, and they can contaminate medical instruments and implants and cause infections. (Chessa et al., 2016) Certain strains of Staphylococcus Aureus have gained the ability to resist the antibiotic methicillin. This strain is known as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA). (Kot et al., 2020) Due to the increased emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, finding new ways to combat these pathogens has become essential. Their ability to form biofilms makes each of these bacteria difficult. Biofilm formation is one of the leading contributors to antibiotic resistance and hospital-related infections.
